I’ve visited a lot of clinics and have seen a lot of dvds regarding offensive line play over the years. Those principles change almost year to because the method is tested after the sale or presentation. Often times the method used is a “hack” to a problem that can potentially arise. This book builds the base. It’s rooted in science. All those hacks being sold are useless until the base is built. This book was unreal.

Excellent, succinct, and informative. Le'Charles Bentley is the king of o-line development and this book demonstrates that emphatically!

This book will equip players with the proper tools to become the best offensive line athlete thaey can become! It will also help coaches be more efficient and effective in their coaching methods that will yield better results! If you’re a serious offensive line athlete or coach and you don’t have this book in your library, something is wrong!

Building the Block is the most in-depth approach to the fundamentals of football that many have glossed over. It challenges the way techniques have been coached for years, but he backs everything with references from everything science, physics, biomechanics, and anatomy. For me, what I thought I knew about the most basic techniques was all wrong. And every time I would try to refute his teachings, he references scientific research. This should be a requirement for all offensive coaches if we want to improve this game.

I read Pierson's first book a couple years ago, and Endless Road is as well written and colorful as The Perfect Vehicle, I was about 3/4 thru this before I learned that John Ryan had died in a motorcycle accident a couple years after this book was published. This fact made reading the last part even more engaging - getting deeper into the person Ryan is, his strength brought down by a physical weakness. I have a couple people in my circle who are long distance riders, another who lost his life at a young age during a rally, and another one of the most incredible men I've met - Terri Hammond, who was the host if the Moonshine Lunch Run--a ride that attracted the LD community for a weekend of festivities in a tiny town in Southern IL. Passenger pegs down for those whom we've lost, and thanks for sharing this incredible story of a man you knew for such a short time.

I love the writer's style and the way she compares IBA accomplishments to other Historic Feats throughout History. If you are a rider, you will have even more respect for John Ryan and some of the other Iron Butt rally-goers.

Having read The Perfect Vehicle (twice) when it first came out and then chagrined to hear the author had given up riding...I was really excited to hear that Pierson was back on board and had written about it. I really wanted to love this book and assumed I would, but alas, that was not the case. Perhaps it's me but I felt the prose just rambled and wandered too much. The style is similar to her first book, but for some reason it just didn't hold my attention. Also, I felt a sadness for John Ryan. I applaud his records and accomplishments but at the same time, it sounds like a sad, lonely and dare I say....selfish life. No job, no family, no money and hates Thanksgiving. Activity does not take the place of relationships and after finishing this book I didn't want to go out and ride but rather, wanted to reexamine my own priorities. I really enjoyed hearing about the Moto-Guzzi she was gifted with and the passion and generosity that made that happen.

As a motorcycle rider and writer, and one who writes and publishes articles about riding, Pierson is inspiring and intimidating to me. Her first book, "The Perfect Vehicle: What It Is About Motorcycles," is one I read, re-read and continually recommended to my riding (and non-rider) friends. When I saw this, I ordered it immediately and read it the weekend it arrived. There is a lot to like and recommend in this book but to me her descriptions of people, things, weather and just about anything are so incredibly well crafted, it is like you could put them to music. Simply amazing. If riding motorcycles has touched you at all, you should read this book.

I read the author's earlier book, "The Perfect Vehicle", many years ago and was glad to see this advertised. I purchased a copy as a Christmas present, and later bought a copy for myself. I enjoyed it, I find her style of writing a bit jumpy and random at times, but it works for me, and I really enjoyed the way she describes the mind of the long-distance rider. I have been on a good number of solo and group motorcycle tours of all lengths and find myself always wanting the next trip to be larger in scale, and she does a wonderful job of giving you a look inside some of the emotions and perspectives. I would recommend this to any rider who enjoys tours, obviously, but even non-riders will enjoy the book if they enjoy reading about unique characters.

If you truly love riding the book is a journey when reading is possible and riding is not .

I'm a IBA member and knew who John was. I found this book to be better than her other book "The Perfect Machine".

It's very hard for me to write this, because I'm still not over the fact that John Ryan isn't on the Earth anymore. But, Melissa's book is excellent. For someone, who had little interest in the motorcycle world, it is quite a testament to Melissa's writing that I have read the book twice. I identified with Melissa's story. We both have sons and at the time of the first reading I was separated from my husband, she was recovering from a divorce. We are close in age. I understood her fears.The second time I read the book, I was grieving John's death and feeling such regret that we had never met.I guess, I'd say the book has a lot to do with grief, and life and of course motorcycles, but that is a metaphor. I saw what I needed to see each time I read it. Thank you, Melissa, for writing such a beautiful book.

This book, based on a folk-tale from Kenya, is not written by a Kenyan, but by a white missionary from Canada. And I'm sure he means well, but it feels as though he has taken his idea of creation, and tacked on the story he heard.I chose this book to review because of the cover, and the illustrations, which are quite striking.The story, the concept of the whole book, is that when the wildebeest was created, it was made up of all the left over bits of all the other animals that had been created. And the illustrator does a great job of conveying that part of the story.It is just with so many stories out there that are written by white colonists, do we really need one more, no matter how gorgeous the pictures are? I would have loved to have read the original folk tale, which is important to the people of Kenya, because it would have reflected their beliefs and their history.Lovely illustrations though, so it gets the three stars for that.Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

This beautifully illustrated story is based on an African creation story of the wildebeast. The Creator makes the universe, the earth, water, sky, plants, fish, birds and mammals, and she tells each animal to "Take what you need to live. Take no more. Waste nothing." When the Creator realizes that she has some leftover pieces, she takes her own advice and uses them to make the unique wildebeast. This is a cute story that I think most kids will find funny and interesting. The illustrations are colorful and vibrant, and I love that the Creator is female!Thanks you Netgalley and Orca Book Publishers for an advance copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this story! Eric Walters has written a simple and sweet creation story with the very important reminder to only take what you need so that you don't waste anything. I especially liked that the story was not wordy -- books like this can be so much more fun to read with children when there is room for them to build on the story themselves.I also loved the vibrant and unique illustrations by Sue Todd, and was fascinated to read that she created them by using a printmaking technique involving carving the images into linoleum.Thank you to NetGalley and Orca Book Publishers for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely adore this book! I love the story and the illustrations are just so gorgeous and eye-catching. This book is stunning! I will definitely be purchasing this for my son's library collection.

About the Author

After reading a negative one-star review that warned of Buddhism (gasp, oh no!) principles generously sprinkled through this book, along with the chance that it might encourage my child to be a rebel (heavens no, say it isn't so!) I HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK.I mean, seriously, is that not the best recommendation clothed in a one-star review one could possibly find?Buddhism and outside of the box thinking. The horror of it all!I waited eagerly for this book to arrive.I've paged through it and have to say, I'm not disappointed. In fact, I can't wait for our fall homeschooling to get started! Writing was never this fun in school when I was growing up. Which is ironic because eventually I became a writer and blogger. That said, I think I would have been writing more, and at a younger age, if I had this book.So seriously, if you have a kiddo you want to encourage to write more, get this book. You won't be sorry!

I have discovered a grand book for coaxing the muses out of hiding. It is titled "Rip the Page" and can be found on amazon.com. That is where yours truly found it. I am so glad that I decided to by this amazing book. It is amazing because it can coax all sorts of muses out from their hiding places. Silly ones, sad ones, happy ones, serious ones. and all the other sort of muses one can dream up. This book was designed for children, but I feel those who write for children can also benefit from what is found within its pages.Thank you Ms. Benke for creating and publishing this amazing assortment of muse creators.(Here is something I wrote that was inspired by the activity located on page four.I can write with the soul that is summer.I can write with the blood of my people.I can write with the light of a firefly.I can write with the sent of lavender.I can write with the dust of broken shells.I can write with the memory of childhood.I can write with the bones of fish.I can write with the sea of life.

I'm teaching a Creative Writing Class for a Homeschool-Co-op. My main focus is poetry and associated word activities, as well as activities that stretch the mind, looking to help kids add more description, feeling and more. I found this book at my local library, it was SO GOOD I had to buy it, so I did! I'm using this book to use as main activities for thinking outside of the box, to put their pen and mind to work in a creative fashion. This book is loaded with FUN and creative writing ideas! It's one fun assignment after the next!! I love the crazy, goofy or silly ideas - mixed in with other mind-stretching ideas that will make my creative writing class a TON OF FUN for kids! The book is full of fresh & fun ideas... One after the next, after the next, after the next, and next and next-next... NEXT... OH is that one of the activities? Word repeating!! OK so it's super-duper-fun... It's suduperfun... It's Sudufun... OH A NEW WORD!! Another activity! It really is worth it for every student to have a copy of this book. I believe that it will really help the students grow in their abilities!

This is a lovely, creative book to explore writing with; my nine year old and I love it, and we will likely use it for a while. This is perfect for what we wanted. It is great for an individual child or even adult who would enjoy thoughtful ideas and prompts. And really, as a teacher I can't imagine not being able to include these ideas into lesson plans and into a writing program for students. Not everything needs to come planned out; I think this can be a great addition to classroom writing for a teacher willing to put a little thought into it. I look forward to more from this author. Thank you!

Be sure to keep a pad of Post-its with you as you read this book. You'll want to mark page after page of these playful exercises. Author Benke encourages creative writers to:-be "curious about everything around you for a few minutes" each day (p. 24). This segues into a wonderful, meditation-like exercise in transforming the "awful, terrible, no-good" of the world with a breath.-wonder "how things began"by writing a "favorite number, letter, punctuation mark...on a page and...imagining what it looks like, what or who it used to be, where it likes to hide, fly, build sand castles....maybe even how it moves and what it has to climb to get a better view of the sea or sky. You can also include what your number, letter punctuation mark isn't, never was, never will be." (p.26) This is a fun twist on an exercise I've used with my students on personification of abstract nouns.-create a simple "list" poem with a dozen or so ideas to start with (p.111).The exercises can be used to start the creative process or take it to a finished piece. Benke's delightful book is sparkling with fresh ideas and fun ways to use them.

There was a review that led me to believe it would be good for my 9 1/2 year old granddaughter who's favorite class is creative writing.This is for a much older child or adult. It looks like it has some great excercises, though.

I taught a short Creative Writing class this semester, and I used that as an excuse to order this fun book that's been on my wishlist for ages. It was definitely helpful in planning my lessons for the kids, but I had a lot of fun with it as well. I plan to keep on playing with the prompts and games found within its pages. Sometimes, I have to quit writing what I'm supposed to be writing and let my brain play freely.I would highly recommend this book if you are a kid who loves to write, a kid who thinks you don't love to write, a grown-up who still has fun with words, a grown up who thinks he is too old to have fun with words, or really if you are just about anyone.
