I have and use 3 nursing care plan books and they are all great for different reasons. I really like this one because it's so comprehensive and so descriptive in the pathophysiology of each disease. this is great if you really want to understand what the diagnoses is all about and how and why you do what you do as a nurse. a con of this book is that it is super heavy and you just have to keep this book at home. However, this is the BEST nursing care plan book to get if you are just starting to write care plans. it really teaches you how to think about your diseases.if you are interested, the other nursing care plan books that i use are:-Nursing Care Plans: Diagnoses, Interventions, and Outcomes, 8e by Meg Gulanick PhD APRN FAAN: helpful in that it's easier to bring around your backpack and gives great ideas- not as comprehensive as lippincott but just as helpful-Nurse's Pocket Guide: Diagnoses, Prioritized Interventions and Rationales: this is the most bang for your buck. it's very small and super easy to carry around- I would bring this book with me to clinicals to reference quickly what i should do for my patient.

Excellent book. The book is excellent for nursing school ad helped greatly with my revision in for my registration examination. It goes through a detailed anatomy and physiology for each system. Pathophysiology of diseases under the systems is very concise

I can only imagine continuing to use this through my career as I venture into looking for a job. Great resource. Definitely should be a staple of every nursing student. Get it used to save some money.

I would have really loved this book but I never rec'd it in the mail. It was not the senders fault it was actually the mailman's. He accidentally delivered it to another address and when he went to retrieve it, they said they did not have it. Oh well...someone needed it worse than I did. I never reordered it...but thank you anyway.

Great book. I was a nurse and used a much earlier edition, this one is for my granddaughter. Good price and speedy delivery.

At some point in my first semester of nursing school, someone told me that our professors get questions out of this book, and I JUMPED to my computer to buy it on amazon. I have no idea if that was true, in fact I suspect it is false, but it does not matter. I have used this book along every single step of my nursing school career.This book is useful as a reference for writing care plans, as a study guide to make sure you know the latest evidence based practice, and just for clarifying things that the nursing textbook leaves muddy and unclear. This book presents the pathophysiology, treatments, and nursing actions and rationales in an uncluttered and straightforward manner. Information is very easy to find and in a logical order every time.I would say that the only time I didn't really crack this book was in my psychiatric/community health class. But every other time I found it to be thorough and I preferred reading this to my textbook for exam review. I am glad I spent the money on it and will probably use it for years to come.

A great book. Wonderfully helpful with my Industrial Hygiene course I used it for. I would recommend this book for any course dealing with Industrial Hygiene. I would also recommend this book when working in the Industrial Hygiene profession and needing a helpful reference or guide.

I have ordered used books in the past from Amazon in "Good quality" and they looked like new.I would rate this book as "Acceptable". It had some yellow and brown stains.I needed it for a class and this was the only one available.Other students in my class order the same book a week earlier and in much better shape for $89.00.

The product arrived in relatively good condition, with only a few nicks on the front and back cover. I do wish I would have known just how large the book was, though.

Very useful book in very good conditions

As described.

this is the volume 2 of Grafakos' books. it contains much more advanced topics than volume 1. I like the way Grafakos arranges different topics, and the exercises are especially good for study.

The book was in perfect conditions

There are a lot of good books on Fourier Analysis. If you're just starting, I think Elias Stein's Fourier Analysis textbook is a good start. There are very few texts that prove L. Carleson's theorem or (better) Hunt's extension to it. The theorem is just too hard for most contexts. But, if you don't know that basic result, I think you're missing a lot. So, this is a more complete book and should be considered valuable, although not, I think, a first textbook. Folland's book is good, too, although I don't like the fact that he quotes basic theorems without proof so that he can get on to more advanced topics. It's a trade off. Somebody had to do it. Folland did it. I don't really see how a person could avoid buying and reading this book, although the temptation is certainly there. Fourier things are deep, but they are also detailed and can be boring.

He (rightly, in my opinion) argues that such a brutish and nasty world is the historic norm. He also argues (again, I would say rightly) and American firepower has, until now, tended the garden and caused it to flower. Like the Pax Romana, or that period during which Britannia ruled the seas, America's enlightened self-interest more or less has kept the peace at gunpoint. Good for us and good for the world and let's have more of it!Paul Kennedy, on the other hand, warned us years ago in his "The Rise and Fall of Great Powers" that "imperial overstretch" is what did in prior great empires. A desire to police everything, everywhere inevitably weakened and demoralized the policemen. Great powers, that is, commit suicide by stretching themselves too thin and engaging too often in armed intervention.The two views cannot be reconciled. In the aftermath of the Vietnam debacle it was Kennedy who seemed like a prophet for our time. But, since the election of Mr. Trump as president, more and more pundits urge that the USA stay active (nosy?) throughout the world and so commit the world to individual rights, "whirrled peas," unfettered international trade and . . . well, you know. (Just read Paul Klugman -- if you can stand to do so.)Kagan argues like one of the long-forgotten Empire Loyalists, a tweedy group of English, chiefly led by former colonels in the British indian Army, who argued in the last century that the British Empire was a boon and blessing to humanity (who else would have put an end to suttee?) and that world peace and prosperity depended on a strong, vigorous and assertive England. Turns out they were right.England's problem was that it just no longer had the horses to do the job. The Great British Public seemed not to give a hoot about the Empire, battleships are damned expensive and the international climate of opinion (typlified by FDR) scorned imperialism. So, by 1938 the British battle-line was a creaking collection of rusty tea-kettles while Alf and Mrs. Alf wanted peace at any price. We know what followed.Kagan makes a good argument -- for the Past. But, it is not 1946, the American people are not boundlessly optimistic any longer (thanks, in large part, to academics like Kagan with their inherent anti-Americanism) and the nation is more divided against itself than at any time since the lead-up to Civil War.America has relatively reduced economic and military power --- but you would hardly know that from reading "The Jungle Grows Back." Patriotism has long since been condemned as a failing of the "Rednecks" ("America was really never that great" -- Gov. Cuomo) and Vietnam and Iraq sobered us all up about other people's fights.I remember America of the immediate Postwar. It had unrivaled economic strength (no more!) and a sense of mission. Now, some public schools will not even let classes say the Pledge of Allegiance each morning. Everything Kagan writes about the Past is true -- but it does not apply to the Future.America is a deeply divided nation in slow relative decline. Its people increasingly are divided into mutually hostile identities and cynicism is the order of the day.Kagan's tribute to the America of FDR, HST, Ike, Acheson, Dulles, Marshall . . . and all the other great figures of the 20th Century is touching and, if you are my age, it breaks one's heart. But, today's America cannot even decide the difference between a boy and a girl for itself -- it's not about to lead a new Great Crusade.Sic transit gloria.

Excellent analysis of the last seven decades of relatively peaceful cooperation among nations, and the dangers of taking the "American-made liberal world order" for granted. Kagan reminds those who clamor for more isolationism that without the continuing full involvement of the United States in every part of the globe -- yes, as the world's policeman and as the best model of democratic capitalism -- the world order can very rapidly fall apart. He analyzes the history (most recently in the first half of the 20th century) of how fragile democracies can easily devolve into authoritarian, fascist systems. He confronts the truth of hypocrisy, immorality and even egregious error in American geopolitical calculations but demonstrates quite convincingly that this is the best we have in a time of rising right-wing nationalism worldwide. Kagan insists that the United States must continue to support its allies economically and militarily and must continue to support a cohesive European Union, which is in danger of coming apart. Very persuasive, a must read.

I don't think I have ever read a book that consists entirely of generalizations and opinions before this one. Strangely, I found it compelling in spite of a contrarian desire to challenge the thesis: that without the military protection of the USA the "liberal world order" is doomed to succumb to authoritarian regimes. The author traces recent history for support of his point of view and cites an impressive bibliography. His thesis is clearly and persuasively presented. I am nearly convinced. His overall view that there is no imperative based on history or human nature for preservation of the "liberal word order" is certainly correct. History is not over and human nature has not changed since the end of WWII. His insistence on the phrase "liberal world order" is curious; most would say "the free world" or simply "the West." But I believe the author clearly makes his case, arguable though it may be, that the USA must stay involved in international affairs, even to the point of military involvement, to preserve the way of life we have enjoyed since the second world war.

Author fears that the US is backing away from being the worlds peacekeeper. He bemoans this and wants to keep the US in that role. Most other nations want that also, I believe, although they do not want to pay for it.

An essential book by R. Kagan. He explains that it is not the first time that in America, there are calls to stop engaging the world, always to unintended mostly bad consequences. He argues in the clearest arguments I’ve ever read, that it is in the best interests of the Americans themselves, to be the world’s policeman. Who else, China or Russia? Or Canada? Only the US can assume the role. Mistakes are made, and the results are not a perfectly peaceful world, but the opposite could be much worse. Relative peace created the conditions for the mighty dollar and exponential increase in trade. America stopped two world wars to great costs human and treasury: what if they had intervened earlier and stopped Hitler or Stalin in their tracks before they got too big for their own boots. Obama didn’t engage in the “stupid war” in Syria resulting in millions dead or displaced. Maybe containment is the best we could hope for in a not perfect world. As the title’s imply: when a garden is not tended, the jungle grows back.

A must read for voters, and certainly every politician. The book is small but dense with a well reasoned argument that the world would return to waring regional powers without the United States to maintain the Liberal world order it has assumed after World War II. Perhaps. His argument is frightening enough to be taken seriously.

I am a huge fan of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles series of books having read all of them and love her style of writing. So I thought I would give her stand alone novel a try and unfortunately, I was disappointed.If you are expecting a big similar to her Rizzoli and Isles books, it doesn't come anywhere close. There was very little action as this is more of a love story than a suspense thriller and runs two stories at a time. One in the present and one in the past. I never really got behind the story in the past and kind of wished she would have gone just with the present storyline of Julia and Tom and taken it from there.It is an okay read but found it slow moving and a bit boring. I will stick with the Rizzoli and Isles novels!!

This is the tenth book I have read from the author who is my favorite.The story starts at present day when a lady who has purchased a 130 years old house stumbles upon a skeleton in her garden. She is intrigued and wants to find out who had died there. She is helped by an 89 year old family historian of the family who had lived in the house. Together they uncovered boxes of letters and were able to string together a series of murders back in early 1800s. The body in the garden can finally be accounted for.The early 1800s was a period when childbed fever ran rampant and many mothers would die when or after giving birth to babies. It turned out that the fever was caused by lack of hygiene. There were also no anesthetics and amputation had to be done with morphine administered to patients who stayed awake during the ordeal. The universities at that time did not have enough bodies to perform anatomy study and had to rely on black market to source corpses. I think the author has done a lot of research and has shed light on the state of the medical profession at that time.One of the mothers in a hospital died of childbed fever after giving birth to a baby daughter. She was survived by her sister and the baby. A series of brutal murders started after the baby was born. One of the medical students was suspected and framed to be the murderer. With the help of another medical student by the name of Holmes (no relation to Sherlock Holmes), they were able to find out the perpetrator.The story has got enough suspense to keep the reader interested to find out why and how a baby was involved. It has got enough twists to make it a rich and entertaining read.I find that they story need not involve two periods. The murder story can be told independently. This can be more convincing and make the flow smoother. It is wise that the author does not bill the novel as an Isles novel otherwise the readers may feel cheated. Dr Isles does appear in the novel but her role is minimal.

This story takes place alternately in the present and in the year 1830. The 19th century part revolves around the difficult life of Irish immigrants, particularly women, in the Boston area, and the prevalence of death from childbed fever. Oliver Wendell Holmes (Sr.), who plays a supporting (and mostly fictional) role in this story, eventually understood the mechanism of its spread: the failure of doctors to clean blood and gore from their hands after handling cadavers and the sick, and before examining their obstetric patients. Of course, Pasteur's germ theory of disease wouldn't be promulgated for decades, but doctors of the time were mainly too arrogant to concede that they themselves might be responsible for the deaths of many of their patients. (Midwives, who still delivered most babies at that time -- especially among the poor -- had little contact with corpses and the diseased, so had a far better obstetrical record. In Europe, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis came to the same conclusion, but was hounded out of his livelihood by other doctors; the fact that he was Jewish in Hungary didn't help his cause either.)Other elements of the plot(s) involve murder and coverup in 1830 Cambridge Massachusetts, and a body found more than a century later the the New England town of Weston. Like other books by Ms. Gerritsen there is brutality and gore aplenty, as well as a romantic angle. Everything begins rather slowly and, at times, with a somewhat didactic tone to the historic sections. By the end, though, there is enough suspense to keep the reader's attention -- including a New England version of Jack-the-Ripper. Ms. Gerritson is a very good writer but sometimes a bit long-winded; I have read quite a few of her other stories (including about a half-dozen of the now famous Rizzoli-Isles mysteries) and have never been disappointed.

It's hard to understand the Nazi mindset or even modern attitudes to race without reading this book. It stands as a plan for what NOT to do. I first read Mein Kampf years ago and at the time considered it confusing and rambling. Perhaps it took a second reading or more background knowledge to see that while it espouses an evil philosophy, it's not confusing or rambling.I don't think we've actually learned anything from the lessons of history, except perhaps that no-one learns the lessons of history -- and that's frightening. Hitler is often said to have been mad, but that is to confuse heartlessness and evil with madness. There is clear method in this madness.Hitler describes how, in his own view, he became antisemitic, and explains his motives and technique in forming the Nazi philosophy. At the heart of it is the combination of ethnicity with ideology. Had more Catholics read this book, they would surely have seen what was coming even to them.Some of the countries mentioned in Mein Kampf did not exist for some time after WWII, but now exist again, so it has at times a surprisingly modern feel to it. Many of the preoccupations HItler had are preoccupations that many also have today; the only difference is that Hitler blamed all problems on the Jews. The problems themselves are things that it is mostly perfectly reasonable to see as problems; it's only that Hitler's conclusions and solutions are worse than the original problems -- and all blamed on Jews.We see an analysis of the aims and effects of progressive liberalism and social democracy and a lot of talk about how the press has become detached from reality, among other things. Hitler also discusses the topic of the charging of interest and the financial system generally, another topic that has gained new life in recent years.The reaction to the monstrous 12-year reign of the Nazis has been to avoid discussing ethnicity and to assume that Hitler must have been mad, and must have brainwashed a nation. It's not clear that this is adequate to fend off any further rise of the far right. With the rise of identity politics, we now see much discussion of race again. Hitler was extremely into identity politics and Nazism could be thought of as a reaction to leftist identity politics and philosophy, and a reaction to far left ideology. Hitler simply replaces the leftist identity politics with a far right identity politics.While it's clear that Hitler was "far", it's not clear that he was "far right", except inasmuch as he was racist and expansionist -- but far left people can be racist and expansionist too. In economic terms, his policies could as well be considered "left" as "right".To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Everyone who is capable of reading a book without being convinced by it, should read this book. Only a full understanding of Nazism can ensure we don't end up with more Nazism.

Simply well written and fascinating to understand the mind of one of the greatest men in history.

I will keep this short & simple. I believe everyone should read Mein Kampf. And this edition, published by Midgård Records in the late 90s/early 00s is by far the greatest translation I've personally read.

Very interesting getting into the mind of the most hated man on the planet.

Arrived fast not as expected but ok

The book came in very good condition. It was a little larger than expected but I surprisingly grew to like it. The wide pages make it easier to highlight and add annotations.

Exceptionally well written from a tormented mind who brought progress, fulfillment, destruction, chaos, and uncertainty. A fine book for the History/War Enthusiast. Great Seller!!
